Goodman furnace: Open Fuse (E5)

E5 YOUR LIGHT: DISPLAY CODE E5 — MATCH IT ABOVE

Professional repair

What does E5 mean on a Goodman furnace? The control detects its onboard fuse open and inhibits all operation except displaying the code. Official probable cause: a short in the low-voltage wiring.

GOOD NEWS: THE FIRST CHECKS ARE FREE AND TAKE MINUTES.

Try these first — in this order

Inspect thermostat wire for bare spots, replace the blade fuse with the SAME rating.

1Check: Shorted 24V (thermostat) wiring — often nicked during other work
2Check: Board fuse blown
